ISESCO to Co-Host Regional Consultation on UDBIE in Morocco

The Middle East & North Africa Regional Technical Consultation Meeting (RTCM) for the Universal Declaration on Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE) will be held in Morocco on 15 and 16 October 2019. The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) will co-host the meeting at their headquarters in Rabat.

The Education Relief Foundation President Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam formalised this agreement while visiting ISESCO to congratulate the new Director-General, Salim Al-Malik, for his recent appointment. The RTCM is the latest product of the two organisations’ strong partnership, while representing the first joint initiative under ISESCO’s new leadership.

Collaboration with ISESCO on this project is a natural fit, thanks to its unique mission which includes strengthening and promoting cooperation among the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture and communication; consolidating understanding among peoples inside and outside Member States; contributing to world peace and security; promoting dialogue among civilizations, cultures and religions; and encouraging cultural interaction and fostering cultural diversity in the Member States, while preserving cultural identity and intellectual integrity.

This Middle East & North Africa RTCM is one of four which will take place in the autumn of 2019, each of which will play a key role in reviewing the UDBIE. In addition to Rabat, diverse regional stakeholders will meet in Southeast Asia (Manila, Philippines), Africa (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) and Latin America & the Caribbean (Mexico City, Mexico), to formulate possible amendments the text of the Declaration prior to its formalisation at the III ForumBIE 2030, in January 2020.
