An Education Relief Foundation (ERF) delegation led by its President, Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam, visited Djibouti from 15 to 18 April 2019 at the invitation of the country’s President, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh.
The four-day visit centred around a set of meetings to discuss the development of pilot projects aimed at implementing a curriculum based on Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE) in schools across Djibouti. The Minister of National Education and Professional Training, H.E. Mr Moustapha Mohamed Mahamoud, reiterated his country’s commitment to BIE while the Minister of Decentralisation, H.E. Mr Yacin Elmi Bouh, emphasised the need for structural reform to enable the contextualisation of the education system. In further exchanges, Minister of Higher Education and Research, H.E. Dr Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, and the ERF President agreed on the importance of overcoming the traditional segregation between policy and academia to achieve an education system that truly serves the imperative of sustainable and inclusive development.
The ERF President commended the Republic of Djibouti for its unwavering commitment to achieving the International Call for Balanced and Inclusive Education (ICBIE) and reiterated ERF’s full support for their efforts. He also expressed his gratitude to Djiboutian officials for their warm welcome and gracious hospitality during the ERF delegation’s stay in Djibouti.
